… sets the Course to New Dimensions in Digitization

Featuring the motto “DIGITAL – SIMPLE – CONNECTED”, DSC Software AG invited guests to the 9th user meeting in the Heidelberger Print Media Academy on October 10 and 11, 2017. Around 240 representatives of the most diverse industrial companies from many countries around the world turned up. Among the guests were top-class guest speakers and twelve of DSC’s partner companies. With a total of 300 partici-pants – around 15 percent more than in 2015 – the event set up a new record.

DIGITAL: Product Lifecycle Management as Basis
“Digital transformation” – is the current challenge to many companies. This giant range of topics was pre-sented from a strategic and practical point of view. The DSC keynote made it quite clear: digitization needs product lifecycle management – for a single source of truth with complete and reliable data all along the entire product lifecycle. What that can look like was shown in a presentation by Thomas Ohnemus, Marketing Vice President of SAP SE for the IoT solution portfolio SAP Leonardo for digital supply chain solutions such as R&D / Engineering (PLM), Manufacturing, Enterprise Asset Management and Supply Chain Man-agement. His lecture “LIVE Engineering – The Next Evolution of PLM” showed how SAP customers use intelligent products to collect live operating data and use such data for their own purposes.

SIMPLE: SAP Engineering Control Center – SAP ECTR as Important Solution Module
In the strategic context, it was particularly clear what role SAP Engineering Control Center plays in suc-cessful digitization. For SAP ECTR brings product-related data into the SAP system by integrating author-ing systems from MCAD/ECAD to MS Office in SAP PLM. Plus: with SAP ECTR, digital twins can be de-picted that concentrate all product-related information and document the complete product lifecycle. Where SAP ECTR currently stands and where the future lies – also with a view to SAP S/4HANA and cloud – was sketched by the talk “SAP’s strategic integration platform for authoring systems.”

DSC’s presentations provided detailed information on both current and planned innovations in SAP ECTR, the related add-ons, and NX integration. Within this framework, it was also shown how ECTR users can switch most easily to SAP ECTR. Not least for free access to cloud, IoT or big data.

CONNECTED: Integration as Key to Success
With integrated solutions from DSC and its partners, people, systems and processes can be linked profityble – for a consistently digital value-added chain. What that can look like in practice was shown by notable global players from different sectors: automotive and medical technology, the aerospace industry, machinery and plant engineering as well as raw material production and processing. The best practices presented encompassed almost the entire product lifecycle.

EVENT CONCLUSION: a Clear Yes to the Digital Future!
The DSC User Meeting 2017 made one thing very clear: the question “Digitization – yes or no?” doesn’t even exist. For industry, digitization is more relevant today than ever before. This could be seen in Heidel-berg by the high visitor numbers as well as the many success stories with a high motivation factor.
