Effective ways to greater efficiency in engineering and beyond
At a joint info day, DSC and Heidelberger Druckmaschinen present innovative solutions and best practices to their guests
“Efficient product development processes through secure data quality.” That was the motto of the info day that took place on September 27, 2016, on the 12th floor of the Print Media Academy in Heidelberg – with a panoramic view across Heidelberg and Heidelberg Castle. The hosts were Heidelberger Druckmaschinen and DSC Software, who welcomed over 20 guests on the day of the event. The guests came to find out how daily challenges in product development could be dealt with efficiently and securely – also with a view to downstream processes.
PLM-integrated engineering with document and change management
DSC showed how SAP Engineering Control Center, the integration and collaboration platform can be used to integrate the most varied authoring tools in SAP PLM, how to make them available, and how to structure and manage them. Plus, how much simpler and more efficient this can make teamwork and data exchange. And all this with the example of NX, which can be seamlessly integrated in the SAP system by means of the SAP ECTR interface to NX. The realistic demo-scenarios ranged from document and data handling (models, drawings, product structures) to changing and releasing assemblies (change management) – including automatic BOM and neutral format generation.
Consistent CAx data optimization and cross-sectoral viewing
The integrated solution – Engineering Control Center with the integration of NX – was also presented in collaboration with Heidelberg CAx Quality Manager (HQM). HQM is a solution for testing the data quality of NX parts. With simple mouse-click operation, HQM tests the compliance of design methods and guidelines. The test results can be stored and analyzed in SAP. If the test shows that errors have been made, release (for example) can be prevented. HQM thus guarantees a quality-secure design release – with significant time and cost savings in the process chain. On view was also the new Heidelberg product View2Connect, an innovative 3D product data viewer on the basis of the JT format that also serves to define assembly structures graphically. The product, which recently won the Digital Leader Award 2016, is also used by Heidelberger Druck. Both production planners, who use it to produce an assembly structure graphically by drag & drop, and staff on the assembly line, who are guided graphically through the different processes, use View2Connect.
