PLM power on the Pacific – with a spectacular panorama

At the “Product Innovation” fair in Orange County, DSC in collaboration with other SAP-PLM partners presented solutions for integrated engineering and more

On November 17/18, 2016, the “Product Innovation” fair took place in Orange County (California): in the Monarch Beach Resort, situated on a sunny slope with a unique view of the Pacific. Surrounded by spacious gardens, visitors were treated to two whole days of Product Lifecycle Management – with the focus on new technical options. How these can be used to further innovation strategies company-wide – this was what the visitors were to find out in nearly 50 interesting presentations on diverse PLM topics as well as in the accompanying trade exhibition. Apart from SAP and Dassault, nearly all important PLM suppliers and PLM service providers were among the over 30 exhibitors present – including of course DSC Software, which presented integration solutions for SAP PLM on its stand in close collaboration with the SAP PLM partners CENIT and XPLM.

At the center of DSC’s live demos was the strategic integration platform SAP Engineering Control Center, which integrates all kinds of authoring tools in SAP PLM. This was demonstrated with the help of the direct interface SAP Engineering Control Center interface to NX. Another product to be presented was the new SAP Engineering Control Center interface to ECAD, which DSC has developed jointly with XPLM. Visitors saw and experienced how much more easily, more securely and more efficiently mechatronics engineering, for example, can run. Not least because the engineering data of all disciplines are merged in the SAP system: for a complete view of the product, simpler interdisciplinary cooperation, and consolidated engineering releases.

SAP ECTR was also shown in connection with Factory Control Center, which connects engineering and production on an SAP basis: including CAM, tool-data and tool-lifecycle management as well as DNC. Thus visitors could see not only the many benefits of integrated production planning but also the many advantages of a seamless CAD-CAM-CNC process chain. Some of the many add-ons from the Karlsruhe software company, optimized according to requirements, were also on show – e.g., DSC ++processAutomation, which provides automation modules, security mechanisms and test functions, and DSC ++NXFlex, a license for the flexible use of several NX-related add-ons.

Although the number of PLM users present this year (about 120) was not quite up to expectations, DSC closed with a positive result: the solutions of integration specialists were met with great interest among visitors. They made some interesting new contacts and had some very promising talks. Then there was the absolutely positive feedback of the visitors to our stand. Even those who have (still) never used the SAP system were enthusiastic – in particular about SAP ECTR and its intuitive SAP cockpit, which makes SAP PLM must easier to use.
