Industrial Machinery and Components

Challenges

  • Complex material revisions: If a design was changed, new material revisions had to be created manually in the SAP system with the aid of drawing lists so that material BOMs could be generated.
  • Laborious document search: Order processing, purchasing, and production planning personnel often had to search for a long time until they could find the right documents in the latest version.
  • Suboptimal output processes: To be able to issue particular CAD documents from the product structure (e.g. to print them), every document had to be searched for and opened individually.

Continuous process optimization with fully integrated product data, document and output management in SAP ERP/PLM

SwissOptic AG develops and manufactures precisionoptical key components, complete assemblies, and optical systems for a wide variety of uses: from the semiconductor industry to medicinal, measuring and security technology to industrial production, aviation, and multimedia. As an internationally recognized partner, the Swiss company covers the entire product creation process (PCP). Product-related data, documents, and processes were formerly spread over several systems. Order processing, purchasing, and production planning were handled by SAP ERP, and document and change management in engineering by a separate PLM system. Occasionally, the local file system was also used for storing CAD documents. All that impeded information exchange and made a lot of manual jobs necessary, and these were time-consuming and expensive.
